Young Economists Outreach Program PDF Print E-mail

 

The Economy of Ghana Network organized a 2-day meeting dubbed the "Young Economists Outreach Program" at Elmina on 10-11 January 2008. The purpose of the forum was to expose young economists in Ghana to an international peer review process for their work and develop mentoring relationships with senior internationally known and accomplished economists.

Senior economists who were expected to participate in this meeting included the following:
  • Professor Ravi Kanbur - Cornell University
  • Professor Chris Udry - Yale University
  • Professor Chris Barrett - Cornell University
  • Professor Steve Younger - Cornell University
  • Professor Yaw Nyarko - New York University
  • Professor Elizabeth Asiedu - Kansas University
  • Professor Andy McKay - University of Sussex
  • Professor Robert Bates - Harvard University
  • Dr. Gobind Nankani - President, Global Development Network
  • Dr. Nii Kwaku Sowa - Director-General, SEC, Accra
  • Dr. Charles Jebuni - CEPA, Accra
  • Ms Abena Oduro - Department of Economics, Legon
  • Professor Ernest Aryeetey - ISSER

At this meeting a lot of emphasis will be placed on introducing young economists to new ideas in economics and how these can be used in their own work. Any young Ghanaian economists working in a teaching/research environment is welcome to register a paper that they would like to present for discussion with this international group of accomplished economists. Opportunities for international publication of finished and on-going work will also be discussed.
